"BOOM"

First leg of the 2011 "BOOM" tour started out for me in Columbus Ohio on Friday night at the Lifestyles Pavilion. I love playing that place. In the winter you play indoors and in the summer the stage turns around and you play facing outdoors.
I played drums with Quinn Sullivan and sat in with Buddy Guy. It was an incredible night. We couldn't soundcheck because of a lightning storm. Then the sun came out while the rain came down but when the gates opened it stopped raining and became a gorgeous night for music. Highlights included an amazing vocal and guitar performance by the young prodigy Quinn on "Ten Years Down The Road" and "Buddy's Blues" and a blistering  "74 Years Young" and an emotional "Skin Deep" by the great BUDDY GUY
Flew to Chicago Saturday morning in some bad weather but made it to Chess records for the record release party for George Thorogood and the Destroyers new album "2120 South Michigan Ave." Capitol records.  The single "Going Back" has been #1 now for 6 weeks on the Billboard Classic Rock Charts. The House of Blues concert that night was sold out. George and the Destroyers tore it up!

I made an early flight this morning to Newark just in time to play the PNC Center in Holmdel NJ tonight.  It poured down rain but the but that didn't bother the 10,000 or so fans that showed up to rock. We had a great set and the Doobie Brothers were amazing and of course Lynyrd Skynyrd killed em. Stay tuned for more about the Skynyrd/Doobies Tour!

BOOM'S COMING!

It's 10:30pm in Duluth MN. It's pouring rain!
I just got off stage at the Bayfront Blues Festival.
Big Head Todd and The Monsters were playing as my runner drove me and Tommy Mac back to the hotel.
Got an early flight in the wee hours of the morning to Minneapolis , then another to Memphis and then a third  to  Panama City Florida. Then we’ll be picked up, driven to Destin and play all night tomorrow on the beach. As long as we make that first flight were good.........show biz!

Played last week in Lewiston NY in front of 40,000 crazy rockers opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Also we had a great time at the CD release show held @ Sportsmen's Tavern in Buffalo, NY. A very cool place to play. Special thanks to all of my Buffalo fans, friends & family for coming out and rocking the joint!

We hook back up with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Doobie Brothers next week in Holmdel, NJ.
As we make our way across the east coast up to Somerville MA for the New England CD release party at Johnny D’s on Saturday Aug 27th @ 7PM.  Hope to see a lot of the old Boston friends at that celebration.

Can’t wait for you all to hear the new album “BOOM”… You should be able to pre-order it soon at CD Baby, itunes, etc…will keep you all posted about that.

Anyways…..gotta pack…..

April 2011 Updates and News from Tom!

Hey Everybody!

On my way to LA to play the "Tonight Show" with Buddy Guy tonight. We will be performing a song off Buddy Guy's Grammy Award winning "Living Proof" album. It's a song I wrote with my friend Gary Nicholson called "74 Years Young". It's the lead off track on the album and Buddy's vocal performance and solo will scare the shit out of you and make laugh out loud at the same time. It's quite an effect. He is an amazing artist and it's such an honor to work with him.

OK let's see. I just finished producing an amazing album with George Thorogood and the Destroyers. It's called "2120 South Michigan Avenue". It's on Capitol Records and will be released on July 12. It's filled with amazing performances by George and the Destroyers of songs by the greats: Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and Little Walter to name a few. The lead off song is one I wrote with George called "GOING BACK" It's about going back to Chess records in Chicago where all these great songs were originally recorded and paying tribute to those masters. Of course it rocks like crazy with George playing his trademark badass slide guitar and singing like he's in his twenties!

"CYCLONE" is the new album I produced for 12-year-old guitar sensation Quinn Sullivan. 12 original songs that I'm very proud of. This Quinn is someone you all should be aware of. He is an amazing talent and he just turned 12! The single is called "My Sweet Guitar" and we performed it on the Jimmy Kimmel Show a few weeks ago. You can check that out on tube and get the album online at all the usual places. He's the real thing and I think you will all dig the album.

My new CD "BOOM" will be available in the coming weeks. I can't wait for you all to hear it. Some highlights on the album include "UPSIDE OF LONELY", "THINGS I MISS THE MOST", "I GOT YOUR COUNTRY RIGHT HERE" & "I HAD A REAL GOOD TIME"

I just found out that I will be doing a 3-week tour of the US opening for George Thorogood and the Destroyers in September and October. I will also be on tour doing shows this summer with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Doobie Brothers. Dates will be posted soon.

It was great to see you all at the shows I did recently with Buddy Guy. Hope to see you all soon and thanks for checking in.

Buddy Guy's "Living Proof" co-written and produced by Tom Hambridge, releases Oct. 26

Probably not many people from Lettsworth have won Grammys — Buddy Guy owns five of them.  He has also won the Blues Music Award twenty-eight times along with many other awards.  He came in at number thirty on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time and great stars such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughn have credited him with having influenced them.  Not bad for a Louisiana man.  Well, I suspect Chicago has a rightful claim to him, too, but were it not for those many practice sessions on the levee in Louisiana, well, he may have never made it up the river to the Windy City.

Drummer/producer, Tom Hambridge, co-wrote the tracks on Living Proof along with Buddy Guy based on notes he took during their conversations, so the lyrics take on a biographical tone.  In fact, they do tell the Buddy Guy story as he reflects on his life, career, and his place in history.

Listeners who are familiar with Hendrix and Clapton, but not as much so with Guy will feel like they’ve been listening to Buddy Guy for years.  Even a casual listener can see the influence he’s had with Hendrix and Clapton.  It begins right off the bat, a minute and a half into track one.  Shut your eyes and you can see Hendrix setting a Stratocaster on fire!

“Thank Me Someday” is a message to his family, “Living Proof” is a testament to his perseverance, and “Everybody’s Got to Go” is a soulful reminder of our eventual crossing of the River Jordan.  “Stay Around  a Little Longer” features guest, B.B.King, Guy’s strongest influence and long-time friend, the man Guy says, “Created this style of guitar we all play.”  Another big name guest appears in track seven, as Carlos Santana joins in for “Where the Blues Began.”

Guy doesn’t disappoint with “Too Soon”, an eloquent telling-off of a long gone love.  Lyrics like, “If youse the last woman on the earth, and I could have all the honey up, under yo skirt, If I was horny as a billy goat,  I’d still say, ‘Woman get yo ass out the door!’
“Skanky” is the closer and a hot blues/rock number that serves as a nice tribute to B.B.King. It is also a great example of what Buddy Guy does that influenced others.  This track alone makes this a great CD for your collection.

Buddy Guy is “100 proof” is a must-have for blues, rock, and guitar fans!

JOANNA SMITH UNVEILS “GETTIN’ MARRIED”

Growing up in the small Georgia community of Crestview, Unincorporated, Columbia Nashville artist Joanna Smith knew she was destined to sing country music. At age five she told a judge at a talent contest, “I am already a country music singer, but I don’t get to get onstage much.” She got to sing on stage that night and has been singing ever since. Now, the sassy singer-songwriter debuts on the national stage with her debut single, “Gettin’ Married.”
“Gettin’ Married” is the story of a single woman who is holding out as she watches all her girlfriends tie the knot. “ It’s a girls-night-out type song. It’s fun and a little irreverent,” Joanna says. “The song really wrote itself. Jeffrey Steele, Tom Hambridge, and I had just finished writing and we were trying to schedule a time to get together again. I mentioned I couldn’t because I had to go home and be in a wedding and that all my girlfriends are gettin’ married, and Jeffrey said, ‘That’s a song, let’s write it!’ So we did, right then and there.” For more: http://www.joannasmithofficial.com/

Gretchen Wilson Has Your Country Right Here!

Gretchen Wilson, who rose to fame with anthemic songs like “Redneck Woman,” “Here for the Party” and “All Jacked Up,” knows the reason she’s had success over the last six years: “I’ve been genuine from the get-go,” she says, “and I continue to try to do that. I’m an open book.”
Nowhere is that more true than on the title cut single of her fourth studio album, I Got Your Country Right Here, which hit radio airwaves this week. “This is not only the title track of the record but it’s the first song on the album as well,” said Gretchen. “It really sets up the whole vibe of the rest of the record and let’s you know kinda what you’re in for.”
The hard-driving single, which was written by Jeffrey Steele and Tom Hambridge, pays homage to her heroes ranging from Willie, Waylon, Hank and Charlie Daniels to Skynyrd, Allman Brothers and ZZ Top.

JOHN FLYNN ALSO KNOWN AS CURT PASSED AWAY.

HIS HEART STOPPED AND NOW MINES BROKEN.

I FIRST MET CURT WHEN I PLAYED AGAINST HIM IN AMHERST LITTLE LEAGUE FOOTBALL. WE WERE BOTH 11 YEARS OLD.

THE PATRIOTS WON THAT DAY BUT IT GOT HEATED AND DURING THE GAME HE CHALLENGED ME TO MEET HIM AT THE 50 YARD LINE AFTER THE GAME AND FIGHT.

WHEN THE GAME ENDED BOTH TEAMS MET AT MID-FIELD TO SHAKE HANDS. I WAS EXPECTING THINGS TO GET PRETTY UGLY BUT FOR SOME REASON WHEN I MET CURT WE JUST LOOKED AT EACH OTHER AND SHOOK HANDS.

A FEW YEARS LATER WE WERE BOTH ON THE AMHERST FRESHMAN FOOTBALL TEAM. I PLAYED TAILBACK AND HE PLAYED FULLBACK. THEN ON JUNIOR VARSITY (WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP) THEN VARSITY (WINNING ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP). IT WAS ME AND CURT I WAS #20 HE WAS #22. WE WON A LOT OF GAMES TOGETHER.

A MILLION YEARS LATER HE'S STILL ONE OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS. WE TALK EVERY WEEK.
